Why a Biblically-Based Education is an Advantage

I’m a lefty. In sports, that gave me a natural edge—defenders weren’t used to playing against someone with different angles and movements. My brothers claim I scored a lot of extra points in my basketball career just because opponents took half a game to adjust!

Have you ever had an advantage? Some we work hard for, like a degree. Others are simply given to us, like being left-handed. Either way, an advantage helps us accomplish things others can’t.

Here’s a secret: a Biblically-based education is a major advantage. It aligns faculty and students with our intended design and maximizes our potential. Here’s how:

1. Truth is the Foundation of Knowledge

Proverbs 1:7 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” Education is about pursuing knowledge, but in today’s culture, “your truth” is often subjective. That leads to confusion and chaos. True knowledge starts with God’s truth. A Biblically-based education provides a clear foundation for learning—that’s an advantage!

2. Humility Fuels Learning

The best learners admit they don’t know everything. A Biblically based worldview fosters humility, opening the door to new ideas. As Peter reminds us, “God gives grace to the humble.” (1 Peter 5:5) Christ Himself modeled humility (Philippians 2:6), and when we follow His example, we become better learners—that’s an advantage!

3. A Growth Mindset Drives Success

Modern research praises the growth mindset—embracing challenges, learning from failure, and prioritizing progress over perfection. The Bible has taught this for centuries: “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2) Even Jesus grew in wisdom and stature (Luke 2:52). A Biblically-based education pushes students beyond their comfort zones—that’s an advantage!

4. Purpose Fuels Passion

As a coach, I told my players, “When you have a big purpose, the small work matters.” In faith, our purpose is God-given (Ephesians 2:10), and knowing our work matters fuels motivation. A Biblically-based education connects students to their greater purpose—that’s an advantage!
