Every Athlete is a Disciple

Athletic Philosophy

The mission of IRCS Athletics is to honor God in all things and make “Every Athlete A Disciple”. Sports provide an excellent opportunity for discipleship as students learn many important life lessons on sacrifice, self-discipline, perseverance and community. We use athletics to prepare young people for life as Christian leaders who choose character before career, wisdom beyond scholarship, service before self, and strive to follow God’s will for their lives.

By implementing Biblical principles in our instruction and setting Godly examples, our Athletic Department staff and coaches will do our best for the Lord- “And whatever you do, do it heartily unto the Lord, and not to me.” (Col. 3:23) It should be the desire of every coach to use interscholastic sports as a means of developing champions for Christ.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily unto the Lord, and not to me. (Col. 3:23)”
“And whatever you do, do it heartily unto the Lord, and not to me. (Col. 3:23)”

Football

IRCS Eagles Football is represented by two teams; a Middle School team comprised of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students, and a Varsity team made up of high school students in grades 9-12.  Our home games are played on our state-of-the-art athletic complex affectionately known as, The Eagle’s Nest. The excitement of Friday night football comes alive on our campus as we compete in Class 2A, District 5 for the playoffs and a state championship. IRCS currently has nearly 80 young men involved in our football program and has been proud to represent Christian sportsmanship at the Regional and State level of competition. Our Eagles were State Runners-up in 2014.  Many of our football players have received scholarships to play at the college level and one former IRCS Eagle is currently playing in the NFL. The Team Scripture passage is Philippians 2:2-4.

Volleyball, Girls

The Lady Eagle Volleyball Program is one of our premier programs, with a proven track record of Conference Championships and playoff performances. The Middle School Team is comprised of 6th, 7th and 8th graders and is purely developmental, teaching the proper technique and skills for success.

The Junior Varsity (JV) Team is comprised of 8th, 9th and 10th graders and becomes more competitive; using the skills learned at the lower level to prepare for future varsity competition. The Varsity Team includes talented 9th-12th graders.

Home games are played on campus in our state-of-the-art gymnasium, where Christian sportsmanship is always on display. Several of our players have received scholarships to play at the college level.

Golf, Girls & Boys

Three golf teams represent IRCS and Christian sportsmanship on some of the most beautiful golf courses in the Tampa Bay area. Our team is comprised of Middle School Boys and Girls, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys teams. Our home course is the City of Largo Public Golf Course located just blocks from our school campus.

Many of our players have successfully competed in State, Regional and District competition. Several IRCS golfers have received scholarships to play at the college level.

Cross Country

Cross Country has represented IRCS at the Regional and State levels as a team, more than any other athletic program at Indian Rocks, making it one of our most successful athletic programs. Athletes have earned podium finishes at the Regional and State level multiple times over the last several years.

Four teams represent IRCS and Christian sportsmanship on cross country courses all over the state; JV Girls, JV Boys, Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys. Our Varsity teams have been highly competitive at the District and Regional levels and have advanced to the State meet 8 times in the last decade.

Most recently, our Varsity Boys team brought home their 3rd straight State Championship in the FHSAA Class 1A Division. Surrounded by beautiful City and County Parks, IRCS uses two local parks; Taylor Park for home meets and Walsingham Park for afternoon practices, both located in Largo.

IRCS Cross Country has been rated in the Top 10 of the state for several years and many of our athletes have received scholarships to run at the college level.

Cheerleading

The IRCS cheerleading program has grown to be one of our most successful programs, bringing the school our very first FHSAA State Championship trophy and repeating with two additional state titles.

They have won many competitions and have been FCC National Champions seven times. From sideline cheers to back flips, round offs, moving pyramids and music routines, our girls work almost year-round to attain the highest level of success possible. Their dedication and hard work shows every time they step on the field or the court!

Bowling, Girls & Boys

Since the inception of the IRCS Bowling program, we have seen some remarkable accomplishments! Our first perfect “300” game, several trips to the State Tournament and Bay Conference Championships have all been a result of adding this sport to our athletic program.

Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys teams use Liberty Lanes, located in Largo, as our home venue. Our team travels all over the area representing IRCS and Christian sportsmanship for the opportunity to compete in the District and State Tournaments. Bowling is a life sport that has become increasingly popular in our area. As a matter of fact, one IRCS Alumni even bowled professionally after graduating!

Swimming, Girls & Boys

The IRCS Swim Program has grown into an extremely competitive team in recent years. With humble beginnings from one swimmer representing IRCS, to now than more than 20 competitors, the success of our athletes continues to soar! Several IRCS swimmers have received scholarships to D-1 competitive level programs to continue their success at the college level.

Our home pool is located at the beautiful, recently-renovated City of Largo Southwest Recreation Complex, located just a few blocks from our school campus. We have several very serious swimmers who represent IRCS and Christian Sportsmanship in and out of the pool. These competitors have their hearts set on becoming the next college scholarship swimmer from IRCS!
