Every Athlete is a Disciple

Athletic Philosophy

The mission of IRCS Athletics is to honor God in all things and make “Every Athlete A Disciple”. Sports provide an excellent opportunity for discipleship as students learn many important life lessons on sacrifice, self-discipline, perseverance and community. We use athletics to prepare young people for life as Christian leaders who choose character before career, wisdom beyond scholarship, service before self, and strive to follow God’s will for their lives.

By implementing Biblical principles in our instruction and setting Godly examples, our Athletic Department staff and coaches will do our best for the Lord- “And whatever you do, do it heartily unto the Lord, and not to me.” (Col. 3:23) It should be the desire of every coach to use interscholastic sports as a means of developing champions for Christ.

“And whatever you do, do it heartily unto the Lord, and not to me. (Col. 3:23)”
“And whatever you do, do it heartily unto the Lord, and not to me. (Col. 3:23)”

Baseball

The IRCS Baseball program is now the up-and-coming program at IRCS. Many players in the last few years have signed a scholarship or continued playing at the next level.

District Baseball Championships 1997, 2001, 2003, 2015, 2017

District Baseball Regional Finals 2015, 2017

District Runner Up 1996, 2002

State Playoff Appearances 1996, 1997, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2015, 2017

State-of-the-art facilities, quality coaches and hard work have resulted in growth and new excitement in the IRCS baseball program. IRCS now fields two teams, middle school and varsity. Fall Ball, Summer League, and individual off-season training have been added to help players reach their full potential. Home games are played on campus at The Eagle’s Nest.

Softball

The IRCS Softball program has enjoyed playoff success for the past five years as they continue to grow and reach for the next level of play each year. Middle school and Varsity teams include girls from 6th-12th grades, according to skill level and ability. Several players also compete in travel ball during the off-season, helping the team to represent IRCS and Christian sportsmanship while competing hard for the highest level, which recently has included reaching the second round in the playoffs.

So far one Lady Eagle athlete has received a scholarship to play at the college level and many of our current players have their sights set on that goal as well. Our state-of-the-art athletic complex at The Eagle’s Nest has facilitated our ability to host the District Tournament several times in recent seasons and has ample seating for all fans!

Tennis

Two Tennis Teams represent IRCS and Christian sportsmanship on the court; Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys. When numbers allow, JV teams for both girls and boys are also included. Some of our top-notch IRCS tennis athletes have been nationally ranked on the Junior Tennis circuit.

One player so far has earned a scholarship to compete at the college level and several current players hope to attain that as well. The team uses the beautiful, recently renovated City of Largo Southwest Recreational Complex as their home court, which is located just a few blocks from our campus.

Track & Field

Track and Field is the largest program at IRCS as far as number of participants, with teams for Middle School Girls and Boys, as well as Varsity Girls and Boys. Over the past several years, the success of our Track and Field athletes has shown in the number of student-athletes that have competed and qualified for the State Meet at the end of the year. Many seasons in the recent past have produced District, Regional and State Champions in several events.

Each year the teams get better and faster, setting new school records on a regular basis. With a state-of-the-art track and field facility on campus, the team is able to train and prepare with minimal distraction. From pole vaulting to sprints, the track program offers an atmosphere of competition and team work, while representing IRCS and Christian sportsmanship.

Beach Volleyball

IRCS added High School Girls Beach Volleyball in the Spring of 2017 as a high school sport sanctioned by the Sunshine State Athletic Conference (SSAC) and the Florida Region of USA Volleyball. With beach volleyball being the fastest growing sport in NCAA history, IRCS is very proud to be the first and currently the only school in Pinellas County to offer Beach Volleyball as a sanctioned sport. There were only 22 schools to offer Girls Beach Volleyball in 2017 in the entire state of Florida.

During the program’s inaugural season (2017), then-Head Coach Mark Foster and Asst. Coach Dave Carstenson, led the team to compile a 41-14 pairs record, a 3-1 Conference record, and a 9th place finish at the SSAC State Championships in Tavares, FL without two of their top 2 pairs.
